And Another Mom Story-This Step Stool
Both me and my mom liked going to The Container Store. I know it sounds a bit silly, but we liked all the fancy organization products. We didn’t usually buy anything, as it is way overpriced, but we did pick up a set of these stools. The reason being is that I drive a van, and the first step is a doozy. As my mother’s walking became more halting, it was important to help her in and out of the van. So this stool, this exact stool, holds a lot of sweet memories for me. Driving around with my mom; going to the beach, Zorn’s (it’s a Long Island thing), driving her to get a haircut and many other places.
Today I am taking it out of the van, it is a bit too potent a reminder for now. Later I’ll probably take it out of storage and have it around my home, as there are plenty of high shelves here.
Whoever reads these, thank you. Writing has been a helpful outlet as I watch and listen to my inside stories of my mom whom I miss so much. August 1, 2020

Over the past few years, the path from the parking

Over the past few years, the path from the parking lot to the classroom has gotten quite muddy, and an obstacle for students to get around. Today Cal finished this imminently useful boardwalk to get past the first of the very muddy, shoe-sucking areas. We will plant some native wetland plants (such as Joe pye weed and Blue vervain) to give it that Nature Preserve quality. Thank you Cal and Bowie the dog. July 29, 2020

4 Pileated Woodpeckers This evening I had a family

4 Pileated Woodpeckers
This evening I had a family of 4 Pileated woodpeckers come to the bird feeders. I had seen the mother feed a single juvenile a few times, but I hadn’t seen more than 2 at any one time. The mother was feeding two juveniles today and I wasn’t sure who the fourth Pileated was. Unfortunately, I couldn’t get a good photograph of them all, as they are wary and take off readily.
I am not sure why the juveniles cannot eat the suet from the suet feeder. They will move to the end of the branch that it is hanging from and look at it steadily moving about the branch while doing so, but not make the bold move onto the suet feeder itself. They will instead start pecking on the branch they are standing on. Eventually, the mother will come back and eat some of the suet and then discharge it in the mouths of the young. I am definitely enjoying my Woodpecker voyeurism. July 28, 2020
